Natural hair needs a lot of TLC specifically moisture so I'm always looking for great deep conditioners and masks to help restore and maintain the moisture in my hair. I keep up with a few natural hair bloggers and twitter chats so I knew that there were plenty of items in my kitchen cabinet that I could whip up to make my feel great. After sending out a few tweets, I decided to go with an Avocado based hair mask. Check what I used and why.
What I used and why::
Avocado: Enriched with vitamins A,D & E avocado works to strengthen the hair shaft and infuse the hair with moisture. Known for promoting hair growth, use of avocado in the hair can help create smooth and silky tresses. (Source)
Egg: The egg yolk is rich in protein which helps to strengthen the hair while the egg white has bacteria eating enzymes which eliminate unwanted oils. You can use the entire egg or the whites and yolk individually. (Source)
Honey: Honey adds shine to your hair and helps to retain moisture and can help to repair damaged split ends.
Coconut Oil: Coconut oil increases the moisture in your hair and provides nourishment.
I used the avocado mask as a pre-poo, applying before washing and conditioning my hair. My hair was wicked dry since I'd fallen off with my normal routine so I was hoping that this mask would add back some much needed moisture. After leaving the mask in my hair for about 25minutes I immediately noticed how much softer my hair was and how much easier it was to comb through. There was a noticeable shine to my hair and it was so much easier to manage.
If you're looking for an affordable at home treatment you'll definitely want to try out this avocado mask.
