Ro's Skin Care Bootcamp:: Obey Your Body Mud Mask

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

In a recent post about JoElle Cosmetics I shared with you all that I was having some issues with dryness and clogged pores. As a result I decided that until I can get my coins up for a facial, I'd try out a facial mask to start getting my face back in good standing. My mom gave me "Obey your Body" from one of her binge shopping days so I figured why not see how it works.

I used the Obey your Body Purifying Mud Mask which claims to cleanse and remove dead skin cells and leave the skin glowing. Well, my face certainly felt refreshed after removing the product but I think the glow statements may be a stretch. I've certainly used masks that made my skin feel much better than this one...and had a lower price tag (this product retails at about $90).

I can't believe I'm sharing these pictures...but hey,I'm wearing a mask...I'm cute :-)!!!
Lol...I'm gonna regret posting this

Overall I'll give it Ro Rating of B because it just didn't give me that "wow" factor, skin didn't feel softer (2wks use) and that glowing skin claim may be a bit exaggerated.

Have you used this brand??

Birch Box:: Kiss it or Diss it?

Monday, June 27, 2011

Its seems lately the beauty world has been abuzz with Birch Box talk and rave reviews and I admit I’m still on the fence about joining the monthly club.
It’s all in the deets: For $10 a month/$110 a year you get beauty samples from “high end” beauty brands

The Pros (according to Ro)
  • I’ll get a chance to try some brands that I’d possibly never try/buy on my own
  • Deborah Lippman polishes are on the list
  • There is a point system that eventually leads to money off full size products
The Cons (according to Ro)
  • Clutter! I already have a bus load of products and I don’t need more clutter…especially if I don’t like the product.
  • Is it really worth $10 a month?
Why oh Why did I not think of this?? Are you a BirchBox subscriber? I’m always reluctant to hop on the latest fads…should I join??

 Help me out!

Until next time beauties,

Kevyn Aucion:: ThePure Powder Glow Blush

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

I picked up some Kevyn Aucion products at The Makeup Show NYC and of course the quality and pigment is great!

When I first saw "Mango" I knew I had to have it and there is nothing better than a neutral blush so I picked up "Neutral." The colors are rich and I great addition to my kit.

Mango, Neutral
I wish he'd lived long enough to see his brand success, thankfully he lives through his books and cosmetic line.

Get to know::JoElle Skincare

Last week I had the wonderful opportunity to not only meet but have my skin analyzed by the personal esthetician to Michelle Obama (pure awesomeness), JoElle of JoElle Skincare! JoElle is a celebrated esthetician that developed a skin care line that would meet the needs of her clients based on her day to day experience dealing with various skin issues.

Located in the DC Metro area, JoElle has a thriving skin care line and client list. Among her services is her Skin Analysis that I had the great privilege of experiencing last week.

JoElle doing her work

The analysis is great way to have an esthetician look at your skin with filtered light blocked out to identify any problems that may be going on with your skin. There are black drapes over the 2 sided apparatus that you stick your head in with a two sided mirror and special lighting that allows your skin to be viewed in a way that can’t be seen in natural light. On the other side the esthetician looks directly into your faces and discusses all of your problem areas while asking some questions about your skin care routine.
During the process I was able to see my clogged pores, (yuck) discoloration and the oily surface of my skin. JoElle drafted me a great plan to bring my troubled skin back to life and I can’t wait to follow her plan go back for an analysis in a few months!!

Be sure to find out more about JoElle and her skincare line HERE.

Have you ever gotten your skin analyzed?

Ro's Ranting About:: Sephora

Sephora is something like the oasis of beauty to us cosmetic junkies with its convenient locations and massive stock of the brands many of us have come to know and love Sephora has itself become a trusted brand.
As I’ve visited a few different locations in the last year I’ve noticed that the level of customer service and employee knowledge has dramatically taken a dive. I’ve had incidents where I walked into stores and never was greeted or asked if I needed assistance along with encountering more than one employee that had VERY LIMITED product knowledge. Is it too much for me to expect (I’ve got to learn to have no expectations) that the staff should eat sleep and breathe beauty like I do?

Unfortunately, I find that I’d much rather order on-line than step foot in a Sephora store because I’m always going to be disappointed with the lackluster service, and lack of product knowledge.

Sephora, please work on making customer service and product knowledge/training top priorities. After visiting more than 5 different locations this year alone and running into the same problems, I’m sad to say Sephora has lost one loyal beauty lover (unless I order online).

What are your experiences with Sephora, have they been good or bad? Is it just me?

The Makeup Girl Celebrates 5th Annivesary

Friday, June 17, 2011

Yesterday I attended the 5th blog anniversary of The Makeup Girl. Beauty and social media diva Lianne Farbes hosted the event to celebrate the blog turning 5 AND her participation on the MAC Cosmetics Blogger Obsessions' Collection.  The event was hosted at Hela Spa in Chevy Chase, MD. Hela is an amazing full service spa that also houses JoElle SkinCare

Guests had the opportunity to get a skin analysis with JoElle (I’ll go in detail in another post) and discuss products and steps to take to correct any skin issues that may exist. Of course all of us in attendance were excited to get a sneak peek of “Hocus Pocus,” the color Lianne helped to create with MAC in a line that will launch June 21st
The Makeup Girl& "Hocus Pocus"

We sipped on champagne and wine while feasting on sushi, yummy chicken kabobs and of course “bloggerversary” cupcakes.

A huge congrats to The Makeup Girl (Lianne Farbs) on the blog turning 5!!

Until next time beauties,
